New interpretation Board for Community Wildlife Garden

Chipping in Bloom is grateful to everyone who has contributed to the development of our new interpretation board.  The Forest of Bowland AONB (supported by Yorkshire Dales Millenium Trust and the Hay Time Project) arranged and paid for the lectern, frame, and printing. The amazing design is by @thefunofthefaircreative and AVJdesign, and was funded by donations and fundraising.

Scything the mini hay meadow

On a very hot day in September our mini hay meadow was cut by volunteers Pat and Ted from Knowle Green. They used a scythe because this is less disruptive to wildlife than a powered mower and gives the ability to mow selectively and at the right time so easier to create habitat diversity. A scythe is portable, economical and doesn’t require power; making it suitable for small, inaccessible spaces such as our mini hay meadow.
