Displays of bulbs

We have planted a range of bulbs around the Village Green, to add colour, scent and interest whilst other plants lie dormant.

Snowdrops

First to bloom each year, the snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis) grows in shade under the trees on our Village Green. These were planted as part of a celebration in towns and villages across the country to mark 100 years since the First World War ended in 1918.

Daffodils

A mix of different daffodil species have been planted across the Village Green. These are in front of our Bee and Butterfly Bed on Church Raike.

Crocuses

Chipping in Bloom joined the Rotary Club's Purple for Polio campaign and local residents, to plant 3000 crocuses across the Village Green and around the village. Planting the purple crocus corms was a way to highlight the need to eradicate the life threatening and disabling polio virus. The colour purple was chosen because historically, purple dye was put on the fingers of children to show they had been immunised.
